Mental illness is the largest single cause of disability in our society. Other than the researched statistics of one in four adults experiencing mental illness at some point during their lifetime; and one in six experiencing symptoms, there are also those cases that are not noted because the sufferers do not seek mainstream medical advice. These high numbers also include families and friends that are also affected.
There are different types of mental illness, some are severe and others are less severe, however regardless of individual experiences all sufferers and careers are impacted. The many different conditions recognized as mental illness include;
- Anxiety disorders, which includes; Post-traumatic Stress, OCD, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive and phobias,
- Mood disorders including; Depression, Mania and bipolar
- Psychotic disorders such as Schizophrenia
- Eating disorders including, Anorexia, Bulimia
