Social isolation can become a real problem as people get older and this is due to a number of reasons including;
- Bereavement
- No close neighbors
- Poor health or poor mobility which confines them to their home
- Few or no relatives living near by
- Some form of mental illness or disorder
- Hospital discharge or admission
A little effort to make regular contact with the elderly can make a real difference to their lives. Our elderly befriending volunteers and support workers can get involved with the clients that we work with in a variety of ways. This can include; friendly regular visits, assisting clients to buy groceries and essential utilities or simply regular telephone chats. It doesn’t take much to make a difference in the life of an elderly person so let us know if you would like to become a volunteer or you know anyone you would like to refer to this service
